Mr Awad Is Second To None And The Pre And Post Op Care Has Been Incredible!

I would highly recommend Mr Awad for any weight loss surgery. I had had struggled with weight for 30 years. He performed revisional revisional surgery on me and I had a gastric bypass in October 2016 where I was borderline super morbidly obese. After losing a good amount of weight already and I’m only a four months in I feel so much healthier and I have my life back. I still have a long way to go but this is the best thing that has ever happened to me. I am no longer hungry or crave food and sweets. Mr Awad is second to none and the pre and post op care has been incredible. He is brilliant.

FAQs:

Frequently Asked Questions About Weight Loss Surgery in the UK

+Am I eligible for weight loss surgery in the UK?

Eligibility typically requires a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 40 or more, or a BMI between 35 and 40 accompanied by obesity-related health conditions such as type 2 diabetes or hypertension. Candidates should have attempted other weight loss methods without success and be committed to making long-term lifestyle changes.

+What are the different types of weight loss surgery available?

Common procedures include:

  • Gastric Sleeve (Sleeve Gastrectomy): Removes a portion of the stomach to reduce food intake.
  • Gastric Bypass: Reroutes the digestive system to limit calorie absorption.
  • Gastric Balloon: Inserts a balloon into the stomach to induce a feeling of fullness.
+How much weight can I expect to lose after surgery?

Weight loss varies by procedure and individual factors. On average:

  • Gastric Sleeve: 50–60% of excess weight loss.
  • Gastric Bypass: 60–80% of excess weight loss.

Most weight loss occurs within the first 12–18 months post-surgery.

+What are the risks associated with weight loss surgery?

Potential risks include:

  • Infection
  • Bleeding
  • Nutritional deficiencies
  • Dumping syndrome
  • Blood clots

It’s essential to discuss these risks with your surgeon and understand the necessary lifestyle changes post-surgery.

+Is weight loss surgery available on the NHS?

Yes, but availability varies by region. Eligibility criteria include a BMI over 40, or over 35 with obesity-related health conditions, and evidence of unsuccessful weight loss attempts through other methods.

+What is the recovery time after weight loss surgery?

Recovery times vary:

  • Gastric Band: 1–2 weeks
  • Gastric Sleeve or Bypass: Up to 6 weeks

Patients are advised to follow a specific diet and gradually resume normal activities as recommended by their healthcare provider.

+Will I need to follow a special diet after surgery?

Yes, post-operative diets typically progress through stages:

  1. Liquid diet
  2. Pureed foods
  3. Soft foods
  4. Regular healthy diet

Adherence to dietary guidelines is crucial for recovery and long-term success.

+Can I get pregnant after weight loss surgery?

Yes, but it’s recommended to wait at least 12–18 months post-surgery before conceiving to ensure weight stabilization and nutritional adequacy.

+Will I have excess skin after significant weight loss?

Excess skin is common after substantial weight loss. Factors influencing this include age, genetics, and the amount of weight lost. In some cases, surgical removal may be considered.
